BDS ADC

Dental Surgeon

Nima chose to become a dentist because ever since she was young, she has always wanted to make a difference in people’s lives via healthcare. And she is more than glad that dentistry seemed to choose her.

She has accumulated over a decade of experience, both overseas and since moving to Australia in 2017. She is highly skilled in all aspects of general dentistry. But her true passion is seeing the results of smile makeovers, which she achieves by combining her depth of dental skills with either traditional orthodontics or Invisalign.

She loves to see patients of all ages with a particular mastery for helping people troubled by dental anxiety. She achieves this with her personal touch and gentle care and, if necessary, providing treatment under general anaesthetic.

Professional Experience

Purnima is a member of the Australian Dental Association. She regularly attends meetings, lectures and seminars to ensure she always provides her patients with the most up-to-date, evidence-based treatment.

Dr Shahad Ali

DDS (Melb) BBMED (Melb) GDPsych (Melb)

Dental Surgeon

Shahad is our relaxed and lively dentist who prioritises making her patients feel heard and valued. She takes the time to get to know her patients and strives to provide an easy, stress-free appointment with her compassionate and gentle nature.

Shahad has undergone eight years of study at The University of Melbourne, graduating with a Bachelor’s in Biomedicine, a Graduate Diploma in Psychology and a Doctor of Dental Surgery.

Originally from Iraq, she grew up in Adelaide and moved to Melbourne at the age of 11. She chose a career in dentistry as it combines her three favourite things: medicine, art and psychology. These manifest together as her love to help out her patients in a medical capacity, getting to know her patients on a personal level and using her fine-tuned hand skills.

Her background in psychology has allowed her to develop skills in managing patient-centred care with a holistic approach. She loves providing an understanding and nurturing approach where patients feel safe enough to receive the dental care they need.

Professional Experience

  • Doctor of Dental Surgery, The University of Melbourne (2020)
  • Graduate Diploma in Psychology, The University of Melbourne (2016)
  • Bachelor in Biomedicine, Major in Neuroscience, The University of Melbourne (2015)
  • International Baccalaureate, Australian International Academy (2012)
  • Certified Invisalign Provider
  • Member of the Australian Dental Association Victorian Branch (ADAVB)

Special Skills & Interests

Shahad enjoys all aspects of dentistry, including general restorative and cosmetic dentistry, crowns, root canal treatments and extractions.

Outside the Practice

Outside of the dental practice, Shahad has a range of hobbies centred around the fantasy genre.

She loves reading fantasy novels. Among her favourite series are Harry Potter and A Court of Thorns and Roses (anything by Sarah J Maas when it comes to it). And to bring it all into full circle, she loves writing fiction as well.

But before you classify her as an introvert living in a fantasy land, she loves to have weekly board game nights with friends.

And ever the perfectionist in everything she does, Shahad even paints her own board game miniatures. Think Dungeons & Dragons, Descent, Oathsworn and Cthulhu. This has gifted her with a fine dexterity that transitions brilliantly into making your pearly whites look their best. Plus, it makes board gaming more fun.

When dinner comes around, she loves anything with carbs. She loves experimenting with different cuisines, including lasagna, curries, and hand-pulled noodles. Her absolute favourite thing, though, to make is sushi.

To finish off an evening, Shahad loves to curl up with her cat, Toothless, to watch TV show marathons. And by the way, is Toothless the best name for a dentist’s cat ever? Yes! Yes! Yes!
